In ancient times spices were appreciated worth its weight in gold, magic abilities were attributed to them. It would seem, similar externally they were applied differently. Marjoram ordinary (Origanum vulgare or oregano) – family plant yasnotkovy, grassy perennial. Not higher than 50 centimeters represent undersized bushes. Blossoming begins from second year of growth, seeds ripen by August. Grows on any soil, except the acidified lands. It is winter-hardy, photophilous, but needs watering in the absence of rains. Breeds seeds or division of adult bushes. The marjoram contains essential oils, tannins and ascorbic acid. Has strong bactericidal, antiallergic properties. Taste and aroma at it gently spicy with flower notes. It is used in medicine, cosmetology, cookery and for decor of garden sites.
Oregano and marjoram – the same plant. The difference only in what for spice of oregano is not collected in garden or the woods, and is grown up on special sites. The aroma of oregano is slightly closer to aroma of marjoram, but less tart smell. Oregano in translation from Latin designates "decoration of mountains", and the Marjoram - "ladanka".

The plant the Marjoram (Origanum majorana) – grassy annual plant is not higher than 20 centimeters with greenish gentle leaves, escapes. Has sweetish and spicy aroma, taste with "ostrinka". In traditional medicine apply as anesthetic, diuretic and bactericidal means. The marjoram possesses light sleeping pill, the calming action. It is used in cookery as the fragrant, increasing appetite spice. It approaches many dishes and sauces.

They belong to one group of plants, sort marjoram. These are fragrant herbs with smell characteristic, inherent in them. They have related versions. In cookery can replace or supplement each other. Herbs have medicinal properties, are rich macro - and microelements, vitamins, essential oils. From them prepare curative broths, infusions, oils and dry collecting.

Marjoram generally annual and very thermophilic plant. It is better to land it seedling as seeds in the soil badly sprout. Marjoram - on the contrary, perennial and winter-hardy plant. It is possible to plant it seeds in the prepared soil, seedling or division of adult plant.
Gardeners sometimes have question: how at stage of young sprouts not to confuse plant? Yes, some spicy herbs have similarity externally, but they obviously differ with aroma (mint, melissa, marjoram, thyme, sage).
