Timely application of fertilizers not only will allow garlic to develop well, but also will improve its protective barrier in fight against various diseases and wreckers.
During the spring period winter garlic three times feed up. You should not do it to thicket because similar action can cause fast maturing of plants, and they will not manage to gain sufficient weight.
The first spring fertilizing of winter garlic
It will be out right after thawing of snow at approach of warm weather with positive average daily temperatures. At the same time it will be better to wait on plants so far about 3-4 leaflets will grow. Before application of fertilizers the bed is watered. For fertilizing use complex mineral fertilizer or ordinary urea. Fertilizers dissolve in water (1 tablespoon on 10 l) and water garlic (on 1 sq.m. on 2 l of solution). At the first fertilizing you should not use nitrogen. It promotes fast building of green material, but affects adversely development of cloves.
The second spring fertilizing of winter garlic
The next stage of application of fertilizers under garlic comes in two weeks after the first. At this time the active growth of plants demands large amount of vitamins and microelements which they receive from the soil. Therefore root fertilizing will be ideal. This time use also complex fertilizer, but increase dose twice (on 2 tablespoons by 10 l of water). Introduction of organic fertilizers will be not less effective at this moment. In particular it is possible to use infusion of mullein or chicken dung. Infusion of mullein is dissolved in the ratio 1:5 and water plants. It is necessary to use chicken dung very carefully not to burn plant. For garlic there will be enough 50 g of the chicken dung divorced in 10 l of water. If any fertilizers are unavailable, then just scatter wood ashes on bed and powder it from above with small layer of humus or prime quality land. Then bed it is abundant water.
The third summer fertilizing of the garlic planted in the fall
The moment of the third fertilizing comes only in the second half of June when there is directly forming of head of garlic. For it use the superphosphate divorced in water (2 tablespoons on water bucket). On 1 sq.m. of landings of garlic bring 5-7 l of solution. Earlier fertilizing can lead to abundant emergence of arrows on plants. For protection against wreckers garlic is watered with salt solution (3 tablespoons on 10 l of water) or ammonia solution (25 ml on 10 l of water). Besides root fertilizing it is possible to carry out and extra root which consist in spraying of leaves of garlic. Then there is faster suction of useful elements plants, but such fertilizing has only temporary effect.
If on plants of garlic signs of shortage or deficiency of any given microelements have appeared, then it is possible to carry out unplanned application of fertilizers. The dosage has to be chosen specifically in each separate case.
