The word "remontantnost" in translation from French means "completion". The first grades of remontant raspberry were removed more than two centuries ago by foreign selectors. Their later works have crowned creation of such world famous grades as "Heriteydzh", "Ott Bliz", "September", etc.
Remontant raspberry is quite often called continuously fructifying, or autumn fructifying. "Indian summer" - the firstborn of domestic selection of remontant raspberry. He, though was suitable for cultivation in the south of the country, has laid the foundation for removal of new grades in the way of trans-species hybridization. Thanks to invaluable contribution of professor I.V. Kazakov the modern domestic remontant grades of raspberry differ in early maturing and high productivity. "Indian summer" 1 and 2, "Diamond", "Gold domes", Augustine, "Elegant", Heracles, "Apricot" - the grades included in the State registry of the Russian Federation.
Harvest in the first year
Initially during the season remontant raspberry yielded two harvest. The first was formed on the two years' escapes which have thrown out new fruit branches in the spring. It considerably weakened plant, reducing ability of repeated fructification. Over time selectors have put the main emphasis on receiving the "second" harvest, from here, actually, and remontantnost.
Upon termination of fructification full radical cutting of bushes is produced. It not only raises future harvest, but also protects it from the wreckers oriented generally to terms of fructification of normal raspberry. It protects stalks from winter podmerzaniye. The new escapes which have grown in the spring grow ripe and yield generous harvest, without demanding at the same time podvyazyvaniye to lanes.
Shortcomings of remontant raspberry
Against the background of indisputable advantages lack of remontant grades is poor formation of root branches, and, therefore, and replacement escapes that, however, facilitates leaving. There are several ways to fill shortage of planting stock and to increase reproduction coefficient. The first – preparation of green scapes. It is made during awakening and forming of root kidneys (May-June). For this purpose choose three-centimetric elevated escapes with the obligatory bleached (underground) zone. The second – stimulation of development of root branches – cutting the central part of root (diameter no more than 1 - 1.2 dm) on 2-3 summer bush of raspberry, with the subsequent development to 20 new future saplings. The third – sowing of seeds, at the same time more than a half of shoots keep the remontant properties. Plant saplings on the lit sites to the friable easy soil, with a density of 1.5 m by 0.7 m, with deepening to 30 cm. Even at the minimum leaving - regular watering, mulching of 10 cm layer of the rerotting organic chemistry, introduction of nitrogen fertilizers (at the beginning and at the end of spring) – the productivity of bush reaches 3 kg.
