Among house plants, popular in Russia, specific place is held by the majestic ficus having several versions. At due leaving the tree can reach from one to two and more meters in height.
What is ficus
The ficus belongs to family of evergreen mulberry plants and in the nature grows in the territory of Southeast Asia and New Guinea. These plants can be both bushes, and trees. Their green leaves grow to 70 cm in the diameter, and small flowers are located on the perianths hidden from below.
In the habitat the ficuses grow to 40 meters in length, and diameter of trunk is capable to reach five meters. Allocate the creeping and climbing species of plant, and all there are over 1000 of their versions. However only a few types are extended to territories of our country and are used as house flora.
Popular types of ficuses
The rubber-bearing ficus is considered the most popular and unpretentious mulberry house plant. It has slabovetvyashchiysya the trunk growing in length up to two meters. The plant possesses leathery and glossy leaves of elliptic form with slightly sharpened tips. The tree differs in the glaucous rough krone speckled by horizontal grooves. Besides, allocate the following grades of rubber-bearing ficus:
- "The black prince" — plant with black leaves;
- Doecheri with pinkish-red leaves;
- Variyegat — the plant having black leaves with cream fringing;
- "Robusta" with big bright green leaves.
The following known house plant is Benjamin's ficus. In the nature this giant is capable to reach height of 10-20 meters while in house conditions the bush does not exceed three meters. The plant is allocated with gray-beige branched krone of the correct form and small oblong leaves of oval, ovoid or spiral form. Also the tree has the dense krone almost completely hiding trunk. Air roots of plant often form beautiful and unusual covers.
The ficus creeping represents the creeping bush of the tiny sizes, but with the long stalks having additional roots. Heart-shaped rigid leaves of green color are complemented with mesh yellow pattern. Also the plant has suckers by means of which it is capable to grow on trees or various support.
Pumila Whyte (dwarfish ficus) - liana with the long and creeping escapes. Has the asymmetric leaves of ovate-heart-shaped form which are located on thick stalks. Leaves differ in rough and wrinkled surface with mesh pattern. The plant completely dims the soil carpet, gaining a foothold in the earth by means of numerous backs.
The Lirovidny ficus has the large light green leaves which are reminding violin in form and emitting special viscous secretion. They are covered with pattern in white speck. In length the leaves can reach 60 cm, and in width – 30 cm. The plant possesses the upright trunk growing in the nature to 12 m (in house conditions – several times it is less).
Rubiginoz's ficus (rzhavolistny) - small shady tree with red escapes and air roots in the lower part of krone. In upper part the tree has bright pink kidneys. Leaves, large by the size, differ in mix of dark green and reddish-brown shades.
Ficus of Carrick (fig room) – the deciduous bush, small by the size, having sprawling krone. Brown-gray and rather thick trunk and also leaves, toothed and wrong in form, covered with white or light yellow streaks is characteristic of it. The fig can beautifully blossom and fructify if to provide it the correct and thorough care in house conditions. Unlike poorly noticeable flowers, fruits of plant (figs) have large spherical shape.
