Types of primer

Types of primer

Primer – special structure which is applied on surface before carrying out finishing work. In them there are substances forming special protective film. Depending on primer basis, allocate its various versions.

Acrylic

Primers on acrylic basis are universal materials and are suitable for covering practically of any surfaces – tree, cement, brick, concrete blocks, fibreboard, chipboard, gypsum cardboard and many metals. Such primers have some advantages. For example, they very quickly dry, have no specific smell, are easily diluted with normal water. This kind of material is very convenient in premises.

Alkyd

Most often alkyd primers are applied during the work with wood. This structure actually loosens top layer of surface that promotes uniform putting paint and other finishing materials. Time for which primer dries – 10-15 hours, depending on work conditions. Some structures contain anticorrosive elements which allow to carry out primer on metal surfaces.

Some types of primers get divorced by means of ordinary water, and some demand acid thinners.

Polyurethane

Polyurethane primer is used by preparation of concrete walls or floor for putting enamel or sticker of wall-paper. This material fills small time and promotes hardening of the basis. The structure dries up approximately in 8-12 hours after drawing, has high penetration capability and does porous design of surface of more dense.

Shellakovye

Shellakovy primers are used for covering of tree and contain in the structure shellac solution – pitch which is produced by some insects. By means of this solution cover knots on cuts of coniferous trees. It is used for preparation for drawing mordant, varnish or paint.

Other versions

Polystyrine structures are applied to processing of wooden covers and surfaces with plaster. As a part of these primers toxic substances contain, and therefore works with this kind of materal are recommended to be carried out on the street.

Before work attentively get acquainted with application instructions.

Perchlorvinyl primers are applied to covering of metal and sometimes applied on the plastered brick and concrete materials, especially in cold season during the work with outer surfaces. At temperature +18-20os they dry in only one hour. Polyvinyl acetate primers are applied to creation of preparatory layer for polyvinyl acetate paint and dry in only 30 minutes. Materials on the basis of phenol are applied to primary covering of tree or metal, and phosphatic primers are applied only on metal and prevent rust formation.
