The wireworm is ruthless in the aspiration to destroy new potato, sometimes it leads to full yield loss. It is necessary to sound the alarm if the wrecker has been noticed by you on kitchen garden, and to take measures.
Fight against the wrecker consists of several moments which it is necessary to remember:
- You loosen the earth between beds more often.
- You watch that there were no weeds, the wheat grass is especially attractive to the wireworm. You should not put weeds between beds, the wrecker well breeds in such small groups. It will be better if you take out garbage out of limits of the kitchen garden.
- From time to time you bring lime or ashes on beds. Also good effect renders chalk.
- Add to the earth sulfate of ammonium and ammonia water in the spring (30 grams on 1 sq.m.).
- Water holes with solution of margantsovokisly potassium (5 grams of potassium permanganate on 10 liters of water).
- Surely sow mustard in the fall after harvesting, and in the spring – approximately a month before the planned landing of vegetables.
- Scatter in the summer on the site the crushed shell from eggs.
- Prepare for the wrecker of trap. For this purpose potatoes which have no eyes will be necessary. They should be processed insecticide, then to dig to the soil in 3 days prior to the main landing. Periodically take out potatoes, clean from larvae and dig in back.
- It is also possible to string cut to pieces potatoes, carrots or beet on sticks, to dig them to the soil on 10 cm. Sometimes get, clean from the wireworm and dig in again. It is possible to use this way though all summer.
- Soak seeds of corn in insecticide solution, and seed in advance, weeks for 3-4 before landing of the main vegetable cultures. The problem with the wireworm will be solved.
- The wrecker likes to regale on salad roots therefore it is possible to seed it between beds, and then to delete together with the wireworm on roots.
- You are not lazy and dig over all soil in the fall, overturning it layers: larvae will appear on surface, and frosts will kill them.
- There are chemical medicines which will quickly save you from the wireworm and will keep harvest (for example, provotoks, zemlin, etc.). Application of such means will not demand from you great efforts, but it is worth remembering that they can do harm to health. If the wireworm not especially disturbs you, it is better to use methods of fight against the wrecker, safer for health.
