Most of summer residents now perfectly understand that the eco-friendly products can be received only thanks to organic fertilizing. But many are confused in terms: ""compost"", ""humus"". What is it? What differ in? How to make most?
Humus
Humus is rotted through (or rather rerotting) manure - the excellent organic fertilizer from time immemorial used by farmers for increase in productivity practically of all cultures.
Quality humus is the friable brown weight easy and uniform, not having ammonia smell. It smells of forest laying, the spring earth, but not manure in any way. If the humus (which is especially received from chicken dung) has ammoniac smell - it means up to the end has not ripened.
Usually receiving good humus requires from 2 to 5 years. Everything depends from quality of the manure put in shoulder, on conditions of its storage. If manure is stratified peat, the earth, sawdust, then the peregnivaniye accelerates and the quality of fertilizer at the exit is much better. Accelerates maturing of organic chemistry the dark film thrown over heap which allows to keep moisture and to keep heat necessary for activity of bacteria.
Humus - great organic fertilizing! It is suitable for fertilizer of almost all cultures (exception - rhododendrons, blueberry, heather, desert cacti). It is used also on sandy soils (it well holds moisture), and on clay (perfectly loosens them). The rerotting manure is added to landing holes, used as the main fertilizer under redigging and also as mulch for fruit and berry cultures, vegetables and flowers.
Compost
Compost - the organic weight which has turned out as a result of decomposition of various vegetable remains stored in boxes or shoulders. Externally it is similar to humus as it represents dark friable weight, is frequent - with inclusions of not rotted through branches or bark, with slight pleasant smell of the fresh earth.
As a rule, for preparation of compost almost all organic chemistry which is available on the site - weeds, mowed lawn grass, kitchen cleanings, tops of vegetable of vegetables, thin branches is included. Compost turns out is more better and ripens earlier if layers (height no more than 10 cm) alternate - damp to dry, and stratify peat, the garden earth, phosphate rock. It is good if as repuff to use manure and bird's dung - such substrate will be excellent fertilizer.
Usually mature compost can be received in 2 years after bookmark, but with modern accelerators of composting or aeration of compost heap the process accelerates up to one season.
Bring compost how humus is used. These two fertilizers are in many respects similar in the qualities - they improve structure of the soil and supply plants with nutrients. However, if for most of owners of sites to get humus or to make it it is very problematic, then to prepare compost - rather easily.
