That who tries to grow up vegetables not on kitchen garden beds and in more constrained conditions – for example, on the balcony or windowsill, know how attentively it is necessary to treat the soil choice. The plant should develop in very constrained conditions, and the structure of the soil should be selected so that it was as it is possible closer to ideal.

Soil for cultivation of vegetables on the balcony has to contain as much as possible nutrients. Soil should not detain in itself excess water, in it there should not be wreckers, weeds. The structure has to be such that air well passed to roots, and the acidity should be picked up according to what vegetable culture you are going to grow up.

Usually purchased soil is made of peat, riding or low-lying, with addition of fertilizers, sand and some part of useful substances. But not always peat is qualitative, not always it is correctly prepared. For example, most of small producers deliver peat which and on structure is non-uniform, and on acidity unequal, with foreign impregnations. Roots of plants, getting to such soil, can burn down, and everything grown will die. 

If mineral fertilizers in soil there is more norm, the plant in appearance feels quite not bad, grows and gains weight. And here the root system cannot fully develop, and seedling will not grow or will hurt and it is bad to take root. 

From modern producers of soils it is possible to give preference to such structures as Rostock, "The live earth", "Violet", "Ideal", "Athlete", "Giant". But more often gardeners prefer to do soil independently. It is also possible to take purchased soil as basis and to mix it with pochvosmesye of own preparation.

It is possible to make soil for cultivation on the balcony of seedling or vegetables of the following components:

- low-lying peat of 50%, the earth from kitchen garden of 20%, sawdust of 30%;

- humus of 50%, the earth from kitchen garden of 50%;

- bank sand of 30%, low-lying peat of 50%, sawdust of 20%. 

Having prepared thus mix, it is necessary to add to it the following ingredients: on 10 kg of soil - ammonium nitrate 15-20 gr., double superphosphate 40-50 gr., sulfate potassium 30-40 gr., half-glass of ashes.
