The word "bay window" is German, and has the double translation: "lamp" or "ledge in wall". For the first time this word in relation to architecture began to be used in the Middle Ages; understood the ledge of serf tower helping to improve the overview of the area lying below as bay window. Later the element of architecture began to be used in house construction, - only this time it performed exclusively decorative function.

If the window of bay window is in kitchen, then it is possible to equip near it dining room zone; it will create cosiness to both members of household, and guests. If bay window in the living room, then the area at window it is possible to use as the space for the home theater, or to issue here soft corner for reading.
