What is hygrometer

What is hygrometer

The hygrometer is special device which is intended for assessment of humidity of surrounding air. At the same time there are different types of hygrometers based on the different principles of work.

The hygrometer represents the small device by means of which it is possible to determine humidity level indoors.

Application of hygrometer

Hygrometers in the household purposes use considerably less than other devices intended for measurement of parameters of the environment - for example, thermometers. At the same time, however, data which can be received by means of hygrometer can be very important.

So, for example, use of this device in the apartment can show that humidity level indoors is insufficient. And insufficient air moisture content, in turn, can cause problems with respiratory system in his residents, for example, dryness in throat, cough and other symptoms which can be eliminated, having just increased humidity level in the apartment.

It is useful to apply hygrometer and in utility rooms. For example, indications of the hygrometer established in the greenhouse where thermophilic plants are grown up will become irreplaceable for ensuring their normal growth and development. It is reasonably useful to establish hygrometer and in cellar or vegetable storehouse as excessively high level of humidity can cause premature damage of the products put on storage here.

Principle of work of hygrometer

Today in the market there are several main types of hygrometers which principles of work differ among themselves. So, the balance hygrometer is based on determination of mass of the water which is contained in certain volume of air which is passed through the system of the device. The electrolytic hygrometer measures concentration on the surface of special substance - electrolyte which changes at air humidity change. The hair hygrometer determines air humidity level on the basis of length of special degreased hair. The fact is that its length has property to change depending on moisture content in the environment. The similar operation principle, however in a bit different key, is used in the film device: here depending on air humidity the special film contracts or stretches, and measuring instruments fix change of its situation. The ceramic hygrometer is based on measurement of level of surface resistance from clay or ceramics to passing of electricity through it. This level of resistance also has property to change depending on humidity of surrounding air. And the condensation device works on the basis of the fact that at air fall of temperature excessive moisture is inclined to drop out of it in the form of condensate.
