Three-level voltage controllers are assembly of the semiconductor elements changing tension on windings of excitation of the generator. At different loads of onboard current network the generator develops current with various characteristics. Voltage controllers are quite useful devices: at the low price they raise life cycle of the accumulator and interfere with emergence of the emergency situations connected with its discharging.

Design of the three-level regulator

Structurally the voltage controller consists of the body in which assembly of the radioelements collected on the printed circuit board or directly among themselves is placed. Voltage controllers happen two types: manual actuation and automatic. In manual voltage controllers there is change of volt ampere characteristics due to inclusion in chain of one or two consistently connected Schottky diodes by means of the toggle-switch. Automatic regulators have the built-in block of the varistors evaluating voltage level in onboard network. They turn on in chain Schottky diodes only at certain values of current intensity and tension.

Installation of the regulator

As current in windings of excitation of the generator makes from 5 amperes and above, at engine start such energy consumption leads to notable capacity shortage. The regulator has own semiconductor key which is disconnecting generator windings in the absence of stable voltage output.
