Any garden does not do without long-term flowers. Their assortment is high. There is set of the plants widespread and usual which do not demand any shelters, and there are also choosy, demanding protection in winter time.
The new flower plants replaced and divided which will winter on the new place the first winter should be covered. Mulching of radical zone compost, humus or the normal soil on height not less than 5 cm will be the easiest way. As mulch it is possible to apply only healthy dry leaves of birch, maple, guelder-rose, oak, rowan. Fir-tree and pine fir twigs, wood spill will approach.
If in your region there is no enough snow, frosts can be essential, then make adding even higher. In the spring the excess layer should be removed that quick starts to get warm the soil under roots.
Plants for which annual mulching, especially in regions with low-snow winters and frosts is desirable:
- gaylardiya, delphinium, irises, crocuses,
- kupalnitsa (cut off leaves and pour mulch),
- clematis (cover the first 2-3 years with leaves layer not less than 25 cm),
- not winter-hardy grades of lilies (protection against rodents is necessary),
- daylily, peony grassy,
- primrose (annual adding because of vypiraniye of bushes from the earth),
- garden tradescantia,
- geykher (surely hill as rhizomes can accrue higher than the level of the soil up),
- dicenter, phloxes panicled, etc.
The plants which are not needing shelters as the high frost resistance is inherent to them:
astilba, vasilistnik, buzulnik, cornflower, geranium garden, doronikum, lychnis, kamnelomka, hand bell, reservoir, lupine, periwinkle, sedum visible, fern, lily of the valley, bruner, obriyet, sage long-term, rose Canadian, etc.
Sometimes plants perish after the wintering not from frosts, and because of podmokaniye melt waters. If there is such threat, then try to dewater, having dug through grooves.
