To Carle Bluma, the director of the Leiden botanical garden, has taken flowers for white moths, thus, there was also name of this wonderful orchid — phalaenopsis (Phalaenopsis) that means "motylkovopodobny".
Really large flowers of orchid in the form remind exotic butterfly, very often they have aroma from weak sweetish to unpleasant, musty. Leaves are evergreen, at their adult plant it is normal from 4 to 6, from bosoms the orchid releases air roots and peduncles. The plant the child who grows up on peduncle or in bosoms of leaves breeds.
Kattley
For the first time this orchid was found in the north of Brazil by the botanist William Svensson, but the name of Kattley was received in honor of the owner William Kattley who has achieved blossoming of orchid in greenhouse. Plant quite large, flowers very beautiful, bright and fragrant. Fleshy leaves are located on one or two on interstices pseudo-bulb.
In house conditions kattleya is more whimsical, than phalaenopsis, is required to it quite big humidity and good illumination.
Dendrobium
In the nature according to different data there are from 1000 to 1400 types of this orchid, besides there is huge set of garden hybrids of dendrobium. Inflorescences of orchids of this sort - multiflowered, can be both direct, and hanging down. Flowers of denrobium have the most various coloring and form. Distinctive sign that foundation of the bay (lower, larger leaflet) is contracted around flower column. Blossoms dendrobium it is very abundant and is long, from two to six weeks therefore the orchid is very widespread in room floriculture. Roots of dendrobium are covered velameny — spongy multilayered fabric. Dense and fleshy leaves are located on all stalk or on plant top. Also availability of the elevated false bulbs called bulbs is characteristic of this type of orchids. During rainy season they reserve moisture and nutrients, and during the dry period spend them.
