Green hedges are very popular with gardeners – use them for dressing of farm buildings, for protection against cold norths, dust and noise of city streets and the highway.
Depending on the region, the choice of plants for green hedge will differ, but one condition has to remain anyway: plants have to create the dense green wall hiding garden from curious eyes.
Types of green fences
The landed green fences can be short-haired, natural form, single-row, multirow, evergreen or consist of the blossoming bushes. They differ and on height:
- border fences have height to 1 meter; - average height up to 1.5 meters; - high fences up to 2-2.5 meters; - live walls have height over 2.5 meters. In regions with severe climate, including in the Urals, in Siberia for creation of border fences use the plants capable to maintain considerable fall of temperature and abundant snow cover. For landings use silverweed daursky or shrubby, barberries, decorative types of currant, willow, almonds, quince Japanese. These bushes can be cut, formed fence form at the request of the gardener. They are decorative and in natural look. For medium-to-high fences the kizilnik, puzyreplodnik, lilac Hungarian and ordinary, honeysuckle, Derain white use acacia. The blossoming fences from wrinkled rose, dogrose, mock orange and lilac are beautiful. If it is necessary to create high green hedge, then it is quite possible to use mespilus, maple or apple-tree rennet. The Ussuriysk pear, hawthorn, buckthorn, elder, guelder-rose, rowan, lilac and mock orange will effectively look. Frost-resistant lianas are very decorative: Chinese magnolia vine, maiden grapes, honeysuckle kaprifol, hop. For creation of green hedges from these plants it must be kept in mind that for them support are required. Expanding, they create magnificent decorative walls which at the same time do not take a lot of place and do not exhaust the soil. These plants are more preferable to small garden sites.
How to look after green hedge
When landing green hedge it is necessary to understand that they grow on one place not one decade therefore it is necessary to pave carefully the way, to introduce in it full mineral and organic fertilizers, to deeply dig over the site and to destroy weeds. More effectively the fences landed in two ranks in chessboard order according to the scheme 20 x 50 cm look. This distance can change depending on the used saplings. For landing it is possible to use plants with the developed root system, but 2-3 summer age or fresh shanks are not more senior. In this case fresh green escapes are cut on shanks 15-20 cm long and 30 degrees, with deepening to the soil on 10-15 cm land obliquely, at an angle. At first it is necessary them it is abundant to water, 2-3 weeks later on shanks fresh roots are formed. That green hedges kept decorative effect, it is necessary to delete old branches and to cut off fresh gain at 1/3 lengths. In this case growth of side escapes is stimulated and landings will be more magnificent.
