Cultivation of garlic - process rather simple also does not take away a lot of time. But in certain cases garlic begins to turn yellow. For what reasons does it occur? What to do in that case?
Garlic is usually grown up in two ways. It or is planted in the fall before the winter (winter), or in the early spring (summer). In both cases the leaves of garlic can begin to turn yellow. This process can have several reasons.
Basic reasons on which garlic turns yellow
1. Weather patterns
Leaves of garlic will turn yellow if right after winter shoots have appeared and snow has again dropped out. Plants which have spent some time under snowdrifts as a result will surely turn yellow. Also similar phenomenon can be observed if in May there are long pouring rains. Garlic does not love moisture surplus at all. For it moist conditions of cultivation are comfortable. And constant rains break supply of root system of garlic with oxygen. And from it tips of leaves begin to turn yellow. But also too dry soil promotes this process. And also low average daily temperatures (less than +10 degrees) can cause yellowing of garlic.
2. Lack of nutrients
As a rule, leaves on plants begin to turn yellow if there is shortage of nitrogen in the soil. But this microelement is not acquired by plants at all if they lack potassium.
3. Diseases and wreckers
Garlic first of all is subject to such diseases as bacteriosis and fusariosis. At bacteriosis the stalk of plants becomes thin, and leaves begin to turn yellow with tips. And at fusariosis garlic turns yellow instantly, and its bulbs become covered by mold.
Also this vegetable culture is subject to influence of various wreckers, for example stem nematode. These are little worms who get deep into young plants and ruin them. On leaves at the same time yellow streaks appear.
What to do if garlic turns yellow
The correct cultivation of garlic begins with competent and timely landing. It is important to observe the main sowing time of both winter, and summer garlic. It is better to put this vegetable culture on high beds, water near landings so will not stand.
After landing or in the early spring the soil under plants is mulched. For this purpose use humus or the rerotting manure. Also it needs to be loosened regularly, especially after each watering of plants. For cultivation of garlic choose sandy or loamy soils in which the level of underground water is quite deeply.
At lack of nutrients garlic 3-4 times during the whole season feed up. The first two fertilizing carry out by means of nitrogen fertilizer or prepares solutions of mullein and chicken dung. In other cases already use any complex mineral fertilizers or infusion of green grass with addition to nitrophoska.
If garlic turns yellow because of diseases, then hold number of preventive events. At the same time it will be rather difficult to help at once in this case, and to get rid here of them the next year it will turn out. First, completely replace planting stock. Cloves before landing ret for 1 hour in solution of copper vitriol or potassium permanganate. The same structures it is necessary to process the soil one week prior to landing. Secondly, garlic surely feed up superphosphate which promotes emergence of resistance to various bacterial diseases in plants.
For protection against stem nematode under garlic bring ammonium sulfate (2 tablespoons on 10 l of water). Also near bed it is possible to put mint or calendula which are natural defenders of this vegetable culture from various diseases. And here the carrots growing at row protect garlic from wreckers.
It is also important to follow the main rule: it is impossible to grow up garlic on one place more than three years. Observance of crop rotation allows plants to remain always green and not to turn yellow prematurely.
