Lilac – deciduous bush from family olive, in wild look growing in Southeast Europe and Asia. Every spring this the unpretentious plant decorates gardens with abundant blossoming. However sometimes it happens that the lilac does not blossom. It can occur for a number of reasons.
Possible reasons of lack of blossoming
The lilac can not blossom because of excess shadowing. This plant is the is best of all feels on well lit sites of garden, and will grow in shadow, but will not blossom. Conditions of lighting can change because of the new construction which has appeared on the site or the grown-up tree giving dense shadow.
The wrong cutting can influence blossoming of this bush too. If to break off lilac inflorescences together with escapes on which new flower kidneys are formed the plant will blossom only in year. Excessively thickened bushes can cease to blossom too.
The lilac blossoms because of surplus of nitrogen fertilizers and moisture worse. Besides, such bush can freeze in cold winters. Some grades of lilac make multiple copies, imparting kidneys on stock from lilac ordinary. If at such plant the imparted escape dies, the stock will go to growth, but, of course, its flowers will differ from high-quality lilac. Cutting off lilac inflorescences, it is necessary to leave couple of developing escapes on last year's branch. On them flower kidneys which will be dismissed next spring are formed. Some gardeners recommend to delete inflorescences after the lilac fades, without allowing to ripen seeds. The old, thickened bush of lilac can be rejuvenated, having cut in the early spring dry branches and having cut off the ends remained, approximately, on third of length.
