In terms of mathematics the average sedate, square, harmonious, weighed, logarithmic, etc. can be average. However in practice the average person most often should calculate the simple average arithmetic size of some set of values. In a general view such average can be defined as the number concluded between the greatest and smallest numbers of the set sequence.
Instruction
1. Put all numbers of the initial sequence, and then you divide them into total number of rooms to receive an arithmetic average value. If the task has applied character, then the received result, perhaps, it is necessary to round not to receive the answer in a look "one and a half the navvy".
2. If such calculation has single character, and there is not a lot of numbers in the initial sequence, then for practical calculation of average value it is possible to use the calculator which is built in the Google search engine or Nigma. Formulate and enter necessary mathematical operation in the field of a search query of this system. For example, if it is necessary to find average of the goals missed by the CSKA team in the last five games, then enter such inquiry: "(0+1+2+1+1)/5". The search engine will show result without pressing of the button of sending inquiry by you.
3. If the sequence of numbers is not so small, then it is better to use the tabular editor - for example, Microsoft Office of Excel. Having started the editor, you receive in the order the table for filling with values of the initial sequence of numbers at once. It is possible to make it entering numbers manually, but if there is an opportunity to copy and insert the numerical sequence in a text format, then it will be much more convenient. In this case it is desirable by means of any text editor before copying to replace all dividers between values of the sequence with newline characters - then after an insert in Excel of value will be built in a column. If instead of the termination of a line to use the sign of tabulation, then they will be built at line.
4. Allocate the column (or a line) containing the entered values, having clicked its heading. The arithmetic average value can be seen below the table - in a status bar.
5. If it is only not enough to learn this value, then use a formula for calculation of an average. For this purpose click a cell in which you want to see result, and open a drop-down list on the button with the pictogram of the Greek letter sigma Σ in the section "Editing". Select the Average item in the list, and then allocate the filled range of cells of the table and press the Enter key. Excel will calculate and will display average value.
