How to defend the thesis

The thesis is the not only serious scientific project designed to confirm qualification of the student as the young specialist, but also serious test for the diploma student. It is insufficiently simply good to write the diploma, it still should be protected successfully before the State certifying commission. And in order that protection took place smoothly, it is better to be prepared for it in advance.

Instruction

1. In the course of the thesis defense the student has to not only show the knowledge of a subject, but also ability to argue the point of view in a scientific discussion. And it means that the diploma student has to present the work as the person, show its strengths and convince certifying commission of the correctness.

2. Often at this stage the graduates meet purely psychological difficulties: fear of public statements, inability to speak clearly and to accurately formulate the thoughts, inability to gather at the crucial moment. If you suffer some of the listed problems, on protection it is necessary to be prepared for a performance especially carefully.

3. On the diploma student's performance on regulations 10-15 minutes are usually allotted and for this short time you have to manage to state to the commission an essence of the work and the main conclusions. Therefore it is desirable to write the performance in advance and to print – from the printing text it is much easier to read, than from hand-written. However you should not sight-read the prepared speech – it makes a burdensome impression of uncertainty of the speaker in the forces. It is better to speak by the own words, periodically looking in the text.

4. Precisely to keep within regulations, the prepared speech it is worth rehearsing aloud houses, noting time. And if you feel that you go beyond 15 minutes, the text needs to be reduced. Even if it seems to you that for such short term it is impossible to state fully all your ideas, do not give in. If something seems to members of the commission not clear, they will ask additional questions.

5. After the delivered speech you should answer additional questions of the opponent and members of the commission. First of all do not panic, attentively listen to each question, consider it and only then answer. Try to avoid haste in estimates and statements, it you will save yourself from accidental nonsenses and misunderstanding.

6. After the end of the performance do not forget to thank the research supervisor, the opponent and members of the commission for work and attention. It always makes a good impression and allows the student to score additional points in the opinion of examiners.
