How to define a rhyme

Rhyme call the consecutive use in lines of the final syllables similar in sounding. The rhyme helps to create emphasis in the rhythmic drawing of the poetic text with the work. For definition of a rhyme several main characteristics are used.

Instruction

1. To define the first characteristic of a rhyme, consider on what syllable in rhymed words the accent falls. If the accent in the last words of rhymed lines falls on a final syllable, then such rhyme is called men's. An example of the use of a men's rhyme – "blood love". If the accent falls on a penultimate syllable, then define a rhyme as women's. An example - "mom frame". Distinguish as well a trisyllabic or dactylic rhyme is that rhyme in which the accent falls on a syllable, the third since the end. For example, "sufferings farewells". There is also a hyper dactylic rhyme – in it the accent falls on the fourth syllable from the end and further, but it is used quite seldom.

2. Define rhyming type in the poem. For this purpose look how rhymes are located on the relation to each other in the stanza. The stanza call set of the lines united by one rhythmic and metric drawing, and most often and one rhyming. Allocate adjacent, cross and ring rhymes. 3. Remember that in the poetic work various rhymes and various ways of rhyming can be combined in the most various combinations. Therefore to define a rhyme in this work, analyze every line. Even within one stanza it is possible to meet different types of rhyming. Especially often it is observed in verses by modern poets. The rhyme can be exact and inexact. In an inexact rhyme the final syllables can be similar only remotely. It is one of distinctive features of the modern poetic text too.
