Rules of record of the numbers having a fractional part provide several formats, basic of which are "decimal" and "ordinary". Common fractions, in turn, can be written down in the formats called "wrong" and "mixed". From fractional number of each of these options of record it is more convenient to apply the differing ways to allocation of the whole part.
Instruction
1. Reject a fractional part if it is necessary to allocate an integer from the positive fraction which is written down in the mixed format. The whole part is written in such fraction before fractional - for example, 12 ⅔. In this fraction number 12 will be the whole part. If the mixed fraction has the negative sign, then reduce the number received in such a way by unit. Need of this action follows from definition of the whole part of number according to which it cannot be more value of initial fraction. For example, the whole part of fraction-12 ⅔ is number-13.
2. Divide without the rest numerator of initial fraction into its denominator if it is written down in the wrong ordinary format. If the initial number has the positive sign, then the received result and will be the whole part. For example, the whole part of fraction 716/51 is equal to 14. If the initial number is negative, then and here from result it is necessary to take away unit - for example, calculation of the whole part of fraction-716/51 has to give number-15.
3. Consider zero the whole part of the positive fraction which is written down in an ordinary format and at the same time not being mixed, wrong. For example, it belongs to fraction 48/51. If the initial fraction is less than zero, then, as well as in the previous cases, the result needs to be reduced by one. For example, the whole part of fraction-48/51 should be considered number-1.
4. Reject all signs standing after a decimal comma if it is necessary to allocate the whole part from the positive number which is written down in a format of decimal fraction. In this case dividing comma also separates a fractional part from whole. For example, the whole part of decimal fraction 3.14 is number 3. And for this format the definition according to which the whole part cannot be more initial number works therefore and here the value received in the described way for a negative number should be reduced by unit. For example, the whole part of decimal fraction-3.14 has to be equal to-4.
