How to transfer Gcal to CBM

How to transfer Gcal to CBM

When charging monthly payments for heating and hot water often there is a confusion. For example, if in an apartment house there is an all-house heat meter, then settling with the supplier of thermal energy is conducted for the consumed gigacalories (Gcal). At the same time the tariff for hot water for residents usually is established in rubles for cubic meter (m3). To understand payments, it is useful to be able to transfer Gcal to CBM.

Instruction

1. It is necessary to make a reservation that thermal energy which is measured in gigacalories and the water volume which is measured in cubic meters are absolutely different physical quantities. It is known from a course of physics of high school. Therefore actually it is not about transfer of gigacalories to cubic meters, and about finding of compliance between the amount of heat spent for water heating and volume of the received hot water.

2. By definition, the calorie is an amount of heat which is required for heating of one cubic centimeter of water on 1 degree Celsius. The gigacalorie applied to measurement of thermal energy in power system and municipal services is one billion calories. In 1 meter 100 centimeters, therefore, in one cubic meter – 100 x 100 x 100 = 1000000 centimeters. So that to heat a water cube by 1 degree, one million calories or 0.001 Gcal will be required.

3. Temperature of the hot water flowing from the crane has to be not less than 55 wasps. If cold water on an entrance to the boiler house has temperature of 5 wasps, then it will need to be heated on 50 wasps. On heating of 1 cubic meter 0.05 Gcal will be required. However at the movement of water on pipes inevitably there are heatlosses, and the amount of energy spent for providing GVS in fact will be about 20% more. The average standard of consumption of thermal energy for receiving a cube of hot water is accepted equal 0.059 Gcal.

4. Let's review a simple example. Let during the interheating period when all heat goes only for providing GVS, the expense of thermal energy according to indications of the all-house counter made 20 Gcal in a month, and residents in which apartments water counters are installed spent 30 CBM of hot water. 1.77 Gcal are the share of them 30 x 0.059 =. Heat expense on all other residents (let they will be 100): 20 – 1.77 = 18.23 Gcal. 0.18 Gcal are the share of one person 18.23/100 =. Transferring Gcal to m3, we receive consumption of hot water 0.18/0.059 = 3.05 CBM on the person.
