Germany is the federal republic. It is divided into 16 lands among which there are 13 "states areas" (in German Flächenländer) and three "city-states" (in German Stadtstaaten). Let's get acquainted in detail with each of these lands.
Regions into which Germany is divided often are called federal lands. All of them are subjects of international law. Partial state sovereignty is also inherent in them. Let's consider separately all lands of Germany and their capitals, sights and geographic location of each region.
Baden-Württemberg
Let's begin detailed analysis of administrative division of Germany with a southwest part of the country. The earth under the name Baden-Württemberg was formed in 1952 by association of three federal lands of Germany: Wurtemberg-Baden, the Southern Baden and Wurtemberg-Gogentsollerna. The capital is Stuttgart. From sights of the region It should be noted amusement park of Poseidon (Rust), the Heidelberg castle (near the city of Heidelberg, on a northern slope of Mount Kenigshtul), the museums Mercedes-Benz and Porsche (Stuttgart).
Bavaria
This earth is considered also free state. The biggest administrative territory of the country. The capital was located in Munich. On the Germany map it is the South and the southeast. The region is famous for the locks: Noyshvanshtayn (near the town of Füssen), Hoenshvangau (near the regional center Shvangau), the Linderkhof lock is the only residence of the king Ludwig II which is completely completed at his life (the commune Ettal).
Berlin
The capital and the largest city of Germany is also one of 16 lands. Is in the east of the country in 70 km from border with Poland. Berlin is a world cultural center. Among sights It should be noted the Berlin television tower in the Region of Mitte, a radio tower in the territory of the exhibition center to the Mass, the Brandenburg gate, the Red town hall, the Berlin cathedral.
Brandenburg
The earth is in the east, the capital – Potsdam. Among the main attractions of the region there is a legendary palace of Frederick the Great of "San Sushi" (Potsdam), Tropical Islands aquapark (Halbe), "The Chinese tea lodge" (Potsdam).
Bremen
The free Hanseatic city is the smallest (both on the area, and on the population) the earth in Germany. Is in the northwest of the country. There are a lot of interesting places for tourists: the museums (for example, Vezerburg is the modern art), cathedrals (for example, Saint Peter) and, of course, a monument to the Bremen Town Musicians.
Hamburg
The free and Hanseatic city is not only one of 16 lands of the Federal Republic of Germany, but also the city-state in its structure, lies in a northern part. It is the second largest city in the country (after Berlin). Among places which should be visited in this region, – the International maritime museum, Square "Beatles", an old tunnel near Elba.
Hesse
This earth is located in the central part of Germany. The capital is Wiesbaden. The largest sights – Goethe's House museum and the whole embankment of various museums (Frankfurt am Main), Shtedelevsky art institute (Frankfurt am Main), the Lock Frankenstein (Darmstadt), Fortress Zaalburg (Bud-Homburg), the Gryuneburg park (Frankfurt am Main).
Mecklenburg Lobby Pomerania
One more of federal lands formed at association of the historic areas – Mecklenburg and the Western (Lobby) Pomerania. The capital is Schwerin. The province in the northeast is located, it is the region of lakes and also the region having an exit to the Baltic Sea. Among sights It should be noted the whole city – Wismar abounding with delightful monuments history and architecture, the historic center Stralsund, the island of Rügen.
Lower Saxony
One more of northern German areas. It is washed by the North Sea and includes the East Frisian Islands. The capital is Hanover. Serengeti-park – a zoo, a safari and amusement park (Hodenkhagen), Heide Park with a roller coaster and thematic entertainments (Holtau), Avtoshtadt – the museum and amusement park at the Volkswagen plant and the interactive "Museum of magic sciences Phaeno" (Wolfsburg).
Northern Rhine-Westphalia
Despite the name, this earth is in the west of the country and borders on Belgium and the Netherlands. The capital is Düsseldorf. The largest city on population – Cologne. Is the urbanized area. Interesting places for tourists here a huge number. The most known of them – the Cologne cathedral (Cologne), amusement park of "Fantaziya-Land" (Bryul), the Tsolferayn mine museum (Essen).
Rheinland-Pfalts
Southwest federal land, capital – Mainz. The region lies near borders with Belgium, France and Luxembourg. From the largest sights It should be noted Eltz Castle (near Virshem) and Kiham (in the city of the same name on the Moselle River) and also the historic center Velterbe Kulturlandshaft Oberes Mittelrayntal.
Saar
On the map of the lands of Germany this small area was located near frontier with France and Luxembourg. The capital is Saarbruecken. Exotic places for tourists here not so much. It is possible to note the museum "Saarland", the Roman villa in Borg, a zoo "Naturvildpark Frayzen".
Saxony
Free state or Republic – Saxony was located in the east of the country. The capital is Dresden. The majority of sights here are monuments history. For example, architectural Tsvinger complex, Frauenkirche church, Opera Zempera, Fortress Kenigshtayn.
Saxony-Ankhalt
One of the new lands which were a part of Germany after accession of the GDR. It is the central part of Germany. The capital is Magdeburg. Appeared here by all means it is worth visiting the castle in Vernigeroda and the museum in Oranienbaum-Verlitse, to take a walk along the Srednegermansky canal – the longest channel in Germany and in the park in Oranienbaum-Verlitse.
Shlezvik-Golstein
The earth in the north of the country. The capital is Kiel. Use special popularity at the tourists who arrived to this region the Naval memorial in Laba, Hanza-park – an entertainment complex on the bank of the Baltic Sea, an architectural and historical monument of "brick gothic style" style Holstentor – medieval city gate of Lubeck in northwest side of the internal city.
Thuringia
One more free state finishes the list of the lands of Germany. It is the earth in east part of the country. This area is also called Green heart of Germany. One of the most economically developed East German federal lands. The capital is Erfurt. The main attractions – the Monument to Goethe and Schiller (Weimar), the Old synagogue in Erfurt, Wartburg Castle (Eisenach).
