Friction plays an important role in everyday life. This force should be considered at design of the most various technical systems which principle of action is based on direct contact of moving parts. Not always friction is a harmful factor, but nevertheless in most cases developers try in the most various ways to reduce friction force.

Instruction

1. In the simplest case try to change degree of roughness of surfaces of the adjoining objects. It can achieve by grinding. Bodies which interacting surfaces are smooth brought to luster, will move from each other much easier.

2. Whenever possible replace one of the adjoining surfaces with that which has lower coefficient of friction. It can be an artificial covering; so, teflon has one of the lowest coefficients of friction equal 0.02. It is simpler to change that element of a system which plays a tool role.

3. Use lubricants, having entered them between the rubbing surfaces. This way is applied, for example, in skiing when the special paraffin lubricant corresponding to snow temperature is applied on a working surface of skis. The lubricants applied in other technical systems can be liquid (oil) or dry (graphite powder).

4. Consider the possibility of use of "gaseous lubricant". It is about so-called "airbag". Reduction of friction force happens in this case due to creation of air flow between the surfaces adjoining earlier. The method is used at design of the off-roaders intended for overcoming difficult terrains.

5. If in the considered system the sliding friction is used, replace it with swing friction. Do a simple experiment. Put a usual glass on a plain surface of a table and a hand try to shift it. Now put a glass sideways and make the same. In the second case the subject as the type of friction changed will be much easier to get moving forward.

6. Use bearings in knots where there is a friction. These elements allow to transform a type of the movement, thereby it is essential to reduce losses on friction, having reduced its force. This way is most widely applied in the equipment.
