As scientists suggest to fight against hurricanes

The hurricane is a seasonal natural phenomenon which arises over rather warm water surface of the seas and oceans. It is followed by wind of storm force and loss of a large amount of precipitation. It is more correct to call such phenomenon a tropical cyclone as it always arises at distance no more than five hundred kilometers from the terrestrial equator.

The tropical cyclone from several days to several weeks lasts and constitutes special danger to the island states though can come also to the surface of continents on distance up to 40 kilometers. For the last two hundred years nearly two million people died from hurricanes which in Asia and in the Far East it is accepted to call typhoons.

Scientists develop the most various ways of fight against this kind of cyclones of the increased danger, but did not achieve real progress yet. There is even no exact understanding of combinations of temperatures of different layers of the water surface and atmospheric pressure, necessary for origin of a hurricane, over the ocean now. Therefore the absolute majority of the offered ways is directed to destruction or weakening of already created tropical cyclones. For example, the Israeli scientists suggest to undermine in the center of a funnel of a hurricane - "eye" - vacuum bombs. And experts from the University of Massachusetts in the USA consider that it is possible to fight against typhoons by means of soot. Microscopic particles of ultradispersed powder which soot is absorb water. However the turned-out drops are too small to overcome the speed of the ascending streams in a hurricane and to drop out down in the form of a rain. Therefore they rise up and play a heat exchanger role, leveling the difference of temperatures between the lower and top areas of a cyclone. And it has to lead to weakening of speed of vortex streams - the hurricane will lose the power quicker to collapse.

At the conference which took place in the Italian city of Trieste, the group of scientists under the leadership of Danijel Rosenfeld showed computer model of such influence. They took the most destructive hurricane "Katrina" in the history of the USA as a basis, summer of 2005 fallen upon four states of this country. The computer model showed that as a result of dropping in the top cloud of a tropical cyclone of a charge of soot the hurricane had to change the direction of the movement, and the speed of wind had to decrease significantly.
