Cellular polycarbonate: properties and spheres of use

Cellular polycarbonate proved as strong polymeric material which in many spheres of construction is used instead of glass. Due to cellular structure it has small weight that provides ease of installation of sheets on frame designs.

Properties and technical characteristics of cellular polycarbonate

If to compare polycarbonate to glass, then it surpasses it in many operational indicators. However this material has also shortcomings. For example, over time polycarbonate can dim, at the same time its svetopropuskny indicators worsen. One more essential shortcoming — low abrasion resistance, it means that it is easy to scratch sheets of polycarbonate a sharp object.

Advantages of cellular polycarbonate:

1. Small specific weight. Cellular polycarbonate weighs about sixteen times less, than glass. 2. High crash-worthiness. Sheets of polycarbonate do not break and do not burst as glass. They maintain considerable weight loadings. But in the winter from peaks and canopies from polycarbonate it is desirable to clean off accurately snow as they can crack under weight of a sleet. 3. The low combustibility does this material fireproof. It does not ignite in naked flame and does not allocate toxic evaporations when heating. 4. High noise-insulating indicators.5. Transparency up to 86% and also protection against ultra-violet radiation.6. Polycarbonate keeps all above-mentioned properties at a temperature from-40 to +120 °C. 7. Elasticity. Bending radius depends on thickness of sheets. The leaf is thinner, the better it bends. Bending radius is surely specified by the producer in the instruction for installation of sheets.

Scopes of cellular polycarbonate

Polycarbonate is applied in construction, agriculture and landscaping. Peaks, canopies, gazebos, summer kitchens, greenhouses, winter gardens, greenhouses and flower beds are made of it. Also this material is applied to production of office partitions and glazing of balconies. Greenhouses from polycarbonate well keep heat therefore they are suitable for thermophilic plants which at our quite severe climate cannot be grown up in the open ground. The cellular structure of this material promotes heat preservation. As polycarbonate well bends and does not burst (unlike glass), it can be applied to construction of the designs having the irregular geometrical shape (for example, greenhouses with a triangular or semicircular roof). Assembly of constructions from polycarbonate is carried out on a metal framework. The polycarbonate structure of gazebos does not require the base. All design gathers by means of screws or self-tapping screws, polycarbonate just fastens to a framework and is fixed by special docking profiles.
