At the end of the 16th century the Falkland Islands were discovered by the English seafarer John Deyvis, however the Spanish seafarers also applied for a role of pioneers.

In 1764 the French seafarer and the researcher Louie Antoine of de Bouguenvil founded the pioneer settlement on East side of the archipelago, but without knowing about it, in January, 1765 on West side of the archipelago the British captain John Byron conducted researches and already said that islands belong to the British Empire.

The war reasons for the Falkland Islands

Since 1820 because of group of islands which are located near South America disputes between Argentina and Britain on the right of belonging to the territory of any given state are conducted. Actually, the Falkland Islands are the former colony of Britain in South America. Despite this, the Argentina authorities still do not agree neither with a territorial prinalezhnost, nor with the name of islands, and call them Malvinsky, but not Falkland. In 1945 Argentina for the first time stated the rights for possession of the Falkland Islands.

In the resolution of the UN of 1965 these claims were called lawful, that the parties have to reach the agreement.

On April 2, 1982 Argentineans under cover of the aircraft carrier begin the military operation under the name ""Sovereignty"" which was caused by the territorial sovereignty. The English garrison of navy unprepared to masshabny military operations left islands. Over the archipelago set up the Argentina flag.

In response to it, Britain makes the decision to send a flotilla as a part of 40 fighting ships and states that it is going to heat all vessels belonging to Argentina in a radius of 200 miles from the Falkland Islands. The prime minister of Great Britain Margaret Thatcher neglects an appeal of the UN Secretary General Javier Pérez de Cuellar to refrain from conducting fighting, and British start aviabombandirovka. The British fleet incorporated 2 aircraft carriers, 3 nuclear submarines, 7 destroyers, 7 landing ships, 40 Harriyer aircraft, 35 helicopters and 22 thousand soldiers.

On June 14, 1982 Argentina makes the decision on capitulation.

War result for the Falkland Islands

Proved to Great Britain that it one of the strongest sea powers thanks to the high level of material support of conducting military operations. Human losses, besides technical and property, from Great Britain were 258 people, from Argentina the 649th persons.

In 1989 after the meeting in Madrid between two countries of Great Britain and Argentina diplomatic relations were restored, however no changes in the relation of sovereignty of the Falkland Islands were made, and the amendment about incomplete claim of rather Falkland (Falkland) Islands is made to the constitution of Argentina.

On a referendum of 2013 of nearly 100 percent of inhabitants of islands voted for that Falklands remained the British territory. Great Britain seeks to retain control over islands not only because of their convenient location in the Southern Atlantic, but also because of possible location of oil and gas there.
