National flag of the country is the most important symbol of statehood. On some flags it is possible to track also the history of the country. Many modern countries of Europe received the final state formation quite recently, however in ancient times the people had symbolical flags.
Some more hundreds years ago state of Italy per se did not exist. On the Appeninsky peninsula there were various political and economic formations which included the so-called cities republics and also kingdoms with provinces. Each of the cities of ancient Italy had the state symbolics consisting in various banners and flags. These flags were peculiar coats of arms of that dynasty which governed in a certain territory.
Coloring of the Italian flag which is habitual for the modern person was developed at the time of Napoleon in 1796. It is possible to consider that the flag of France became some prototype of the Italian state symbol. For this reason in the Italian flag three vertical strips on similarity of a flag of French. Later soldiers of this legion became a basis of national Italian guard and wore a uniform of specific green color, with in asperges of white and red elements.
The modern flag of Italy was officially accepted only in 1946 (on January 19th). Primary colors of a flag became green as a creed, white, symbolizing hope, and red, showing love. Thus, three Christian virtues became the main symbolics of the Italian flag. It is not casual, historically Italy was famous for the Christian culture. Exactly there is a center of all Catholic world – Vatican. Besides, Rome is several centuries department of the head of Catholic Church – fathers.
