How to calculate a point

The point is an acute angle between the direction of this line and the next meridian. They are measured in degrees from 00 to 900 and designated by letter r. Near designation the index which indicates a quarter in which there is a point is put.

Instruction

1. If to imagine a compass, then an acute angle between the North C (3600) or the South Yu (1800), located in one of quarters of a compass, and this line and will be a required point. Its index will mean part of the world, i.e., for example rYuV will be located in the second quarter.

2. On a compass the points are designated by wide and narrow triangles. Their of everything 32. The corner between next is equal to 11 °15'. Size call this corner. One point - 11 °15', two points 2Õ11 °15' = 22 °30', etc.

3. Calculation in points is used in sea navigation. The directions on the North, the South, the West and East are called main. The others are combined from names main, for example SZ. Points are designated also by Latin letters where N is the North, S is the South, E – the East, W – the West.

4. For navigation 32 points are used. In meteorology the direction is defined from the center of the visible horizon to points of its circle. Here only the visible horizon which is divided into 16 is important. In geodesy a point - the corner made by a geographical meridian with this line it does not exceed 900. Calculation of a point begins with definition of part of the world on a compass, and postponement from the line of a meridian the necessary size. For example, 3 points on the northeast mean 3x11015'=33045' to the east from a northern meridian.

5. In geodesy the points are used for definition of the direction and orientation of lines. Size is designated also by letter r and is followed by alphabetic reference of the direction and digital designation of a corner, for example: YuV: r15015'. It means that the defined line will be in direction 15015' to the east from the southern meridian, i.e. in the second quarter of a circle of a compass. However recently for definition of the direction of the line and explaining the ground the simple-degree system is in most cases used.
