How to define polarity of the electrolytic condenser

The electrolytic condenser is the unusual electronic component combining properties of a passive element and the semiconductor device. Unlike the ordinary condenser, it is a polar element.

Instruction

1. At electrolytic condensers of domestic production which conclusions are located radially or aksialno for determination of polarity find the sign of plus located on the case. That from conclusions, is closer to which it is located, is positive. Also some old condensers of the Czech production are the same way marked.

2. Condensers of a coaxial design at which the case is calculated on connection with the chassis; are usually intended for use in filters of anode tension of the devices executed on lamps. As it is positive, the minus facing at them is in most cases brought to the building, and plus - to the central contact. But from this rule there can be also exceptions therefore in case of any doubts look on the case of the device for marking (designation of plus or minus) or, in the absence of that, check polarity in the way described below.

3. The special case arises when checking electrolytic K50-16 condensers. Such device has a plastic bottom, and marking of polarity is placed directly on it. Sometimes signs of minus and plus are located in such a way that conclusions pass directly through their centers.

4. The profane person can take the condenser of the ETO outdated type for the diode. Usually the polarity on its case is specified by the way described in a step 1. In the absence of marking know that the conclusion located from a case thickening is connected to a positive facing. Do not disassemble such condensers at all - they contain toxic agents!

5. Irrespective of their design, determine polarity of modern electrolytic condensers of import production by the strip close to a minus conclusion. It is put with the color contrast to color of the case, and is faltering, i.e. kind of consists of minuses.

6. For determination of polarity of the condenser which does not have marking collect the chain consisting of a source of constant tension in several volt, the resistor on one kilohm and the microampermeter, connected consistently. Completely discharge the device, and only then include in this chain. After a full charge read instrument readings. Then disconnect the condenser from a chain, again completely discharge, include in a chain, wait for a full charge and read new indications. Compare them to previous. At connection in the correct polarity the leak is much less.
