Blood pressure is called the blood pressure existing in arteries (so-called arterial blood pressure) in capillaries (capillary pressure) and in veins (venous pressure). Pressure of blood provides its movement on the blood system of an organism, defining at the same time implementation of the exchange processes affecting the general health. At some types of diseases it is required to measure the level of blood pressure periodically.

Instruction
1. Starting measurement of blood pressure, it is necessary to know that pressure indicators in blood vessels of subjects are lower, than further they are located from heart. Such feature of a blood system can cause the phenomenon at which in the upper and lower hollow veins the blood pressure reaches negative sizes. Therefore measurement of pressure on such veins is not performed.
2. To determine the level of blood pressure, use the special device – the sphygmomanometer (tonometer). Wrap up a device cuff around a shoulder (above an elbow approximately on two centimeters).
3. Apply a phonendoscope head to area of an elbow pole. After that by means of pear pump up air in a manzhetka. At the same time the humeral artery clenches. Bring pressure in a cuff to 160-180 mm of a mercury column. If the patient has a hypertension, then pressure is required to raise level above.
4. Having reached the specified level of arterial blood pressure, begin to lower gradually air from a manzhetka, turning off the gate. At the same time listen to tones of a pulsation of a humeral artery. At emergence of a pulsation in a phonendoscope record the level of the top (systolic) pressure. Continue to lower air, tones at the same time weaken. At the termination of a pulsation you receive the lower level of arterial blood pressure (diastolic).
5. You take measurement of pressure in a quiet situation, the patient has to sit quietly in a relaxed pose. Today there are electronic devices for measurement of pressure which are not demanding application of a phonendoscope.
6. Measure the level of blood pressure periodically. If its indicators are lower than 140/90, it testifies to normal pressure.
