The verse size, or meter, is an order of alternation of shock and unaccented syllables and quantity of these syllables. In any metric system there are several metric schemes (sizes).
Instruction
1. The most widespread metric system, sillabo-tonic, is based on rhythmical alternation of shock and unaccented syllables (in each foot strictly certain quantity of syllables). The disyllabic amount of versification of this system – a trochee and an iamb. Schematically the first can be designated so: + - + - + - + - And plus – a shock syllable, minus – unaccented. Example: "The cloud covers the sky with a haze, twisting blizzards …" A. Pushkin. Pay attention that in the second line the last foot incomplete, after shock is not present an unaccented syllable.
2. The iamb obraten to a trochee also has such scheme: - + - + - + - + Example: "I loved you, the love still, perhaps, In my soul died away not absolutely …" A. Pushkin. Here the last foot of the first line which comes to an end on a shock syllable became incomplete.
3. Trisyllabic schemes – the dactyl similar to a waltz rhythm: + - - + - - + - - + - - "There was my father six-fingered. On the fabric tense hardly Bruni trained him a soft brush to drive". V. Hadasevich. In both lines the last feet are truncated. Otherwise on the end there would have to be two unaccented syllables.
4. In amphibrach foot the accent costs between two unaccented syllables: - + - - + - - + - - + - "Fadeyev Kaldeev and PepermaldeevOdnazhda walked in the dense forest …" D. Kharms. The last foot of the second line is truncated (comes to an end on a shock syllable).
5. The anapaest is under construction specularly to a dactyl: - - + - - + - - + - - + "You at dawn will wake me, to Carry out shoeless there will be …" A. Voznesensky. After the last feet in an example there are "single" unaccented syllables, they can be considered the truncated feet too.
6. In a tonic system the quantity unaccented between shock syllables can vary. So, in a dolnik (differently a pauznik) the quantity of unaccented can be from zero to two, in a taktovika – from one to three, in the accent verse which is used also in a rap, the quantity is not limited (from three). The rhyme in these sizes is optional.
