Range (from Greek dia pason [chordon] — through all [strings]), in music — the sound volume of a singing voice, the tool, a melody scale, etc. which is defined by an interval between their lower and top sounds. Opera singers are capable to sing notes of two octaves, to performers of chamber music 1.5 octaves are enough.

1. First of all, if you decided to learn to sing, for determination of range it is possible and it is necessary to address any music teacher. By means of a musical instrument (most often a piano) the teacher will reveal the lowermost and top note which you will be able to reproduce. Important not only "to hold on" to any given note, but also to be able to sing it.
2. Independently the range of a voice decides as well as on the teacher. Take any musical instrument and, pressing keys or striking strings, try to sing sounds, starting with lower and gradually moving ahead up. Be careful – singing has to come easily, without stretch, otherwise it is possible to strain a voice.
3. It is remarkable that during the usual speech of people uses only the tenth part of the voice range. The ordinary person, singing songs, feels freely only within one register. But at the correct training and a training, range can be considerably expanded. As a rule, expansion results from increase in the upper bound of range.
4. The correct determination of voice range will help to choose truly the song repertoire which will not overload a sheaf. However check of a voice can be required not only to singers.
