How to divide decimal fractions

How to divide decimal fractions

At division of two decimal fractions when near at hand there is no calculator, many experience some difficulties. Actually there is nothing difficult. Decimal fractions are called those if in their denominator number, multiple 10. As a rule, such numbers register in one line and have the comma separating a fractional part from whole. Probably because of existence of a fractional part which besides differs in the number of signs after a comma it is not clear to much how to make without calculator mathematical operations with such numbers.

It is required to you

  • sheet of paper, pencil

Instruction

1. So, to divide one decimal fraction into another, it is necessary to look at both numbers and to define what of them has more signs after a comma. We multiply both numbers by number, multiple 10, i.e. 10, 1000 or 100000, the number of zero in which to equally bigger number of signs after a comma of one of two of our initial numbers. Now both decimal fractions turned into ordinary integers. We take the sheet of paper with a pencil and we divide two turned-out numbers ""corner"". We receive result.

2. For example, we need to divide number 7.456 into 0.43. The first has more signs after a comma (3 signs) therefore we multiply both numbers not 1000 and we receive two simple integers: 7456 and 430. Now we divide ""corner"" 7456 into 430 and we receive that if 7.456 to divide 0.43 there will be about 17.3.

3. There is one more way of division. We write down decimal fractions in the form of simple fractions with numerator and a denominator, for our case it is 7456/1000 and 43/100. After that we write down expression for division of two simple fractions: 7456*100/1000*43, then we reduce dozens, we receive: 7456/10*43 = 7456/430B the final result we receive again division of two prime numbers 7456 and 430 which can be made ""corner"".
