How to divide fraction into number

How to divide fraction into number

Fractions have practical value. They show into how many parts some object is divided. And how many such parts undertake in attention. For example, the fraction 2/4 says that watermelon was divided into 4 parts. And 2 parts of the 4th took away to themselves. Brought 2/4 watermelons home, and there guests - only 17 people. Therefore we will divide fraction 2/4 into number 17 to learn from the whole watermelon everyone will get what part.

Instruction

1. Simplify fraction. Both the numerator, and a denominator of fraction 2/4 can be divided at the same time into the same number - 2. After reduction we receive fraction 1/2. At this value fractions does not change though it looks differently (that 2/4 — half of watermelon that 1/2 — half of watermelon). We will also work with it further. Let it be called ""initial fraction"", unlike number into which we will divide it.

2. Present number into which we divide fraction, also in the form of fraction. Our number - 17. In a denominator we will write figure 1, we will receive fraction 17/1. In this way it is possible to present any integer in the fraction form.

3. Trade places numerator and a denominator of the fraction received on the 2nd step. Instead of 17/1 we write 1/17. It is called ""the return fraction"".

4. Increase numerator of ""initial fraction"" by numerator of ""the return fraction"" and write down this number in result numerator. Numerator of initial fraction = 1, numerator of the return fraction = 1. Result numerator = 1 * 1 = 1.

5. Increase a denominator of ""initial fraction"" by a denominator of ""the return fraction"" and write down this number in a result denominator. Denominator of initial fraction = 2. Denominator of the return fraction = 17. Result denominator = 2 * 17 = 34.

6. Write down the end result. 1/2 to divide fraction into number 17, it is equal to 1/34. Thus, all being in the house got 1/34 part from the whole watermelon.
