How to find box volume

How to find box volume

It is unlikely there will be such apartment in which there would be no empty boxes. They are useful in economy as capacity where it is possible to put various unnecessary things. It is logical that the more the box volume, the more things can be put there. How to find its volume?

It is required to you

  • Measuring roulette (or ruler, if box small), calculator

Instruction

1. First of all it is necessary to put a box on a flat surface and to measure all its parameters by either a ruler, or something longer if a box rather big. Parameters of a box are its length, width and height.

2. Practically all boxes in a form are rectangular parallelepipeds. It is a volume figure which all sides are rectangles. To find the volume of a rectangular parallelepiped, it is necessary to multiply at each other its length, width and height: V = a*b*c where a, b, c are parallelepiped parameters. The same formula is fair also for a box.

3. Boxes sometimes happen a cylindrical form (box tube). To find the volume of such box, it is necessary to know the area of a circle in its basis and height. For determination of the area it is necessary to measure at first diameter of a circle and to divide it into 2, and then the received size  to square and increase at 3:14 (it is a constant π ("p") which in geometry characterizes a ratio between length of a circle and its diameter). Now by means of the convenient tool height of a box tube is measured and multiplied by the result received above. It is expressed by a formula so: V = π*R²*h where R is a half of diameter, and h is height.

4. For descriptive reasons it is possible to review several examples. Example 1. When determining parameters of a box of a measuring box the following results were received: length of a box is 120 cm (1.2 m), width is 80 cm (0.8 m), and height is 100 cm (1 m). The volume of a box will be found so: V = 120*80*100 = 960000 cm³ (0.96 m³) Example 2. Let's say there is a box tube from under footwear. Its  height of 20 cm, and diameter of a bottom is 30 cm. The volume of this box will be in several actions: — 30/2 = 15 cm — a half of diameter; — 15² = 225 cm; — 3.14*15² = 706.5 cm² — the area of a bottom of a box; — 706.5*20 = 14130 cm³ (0.01413 m³) — box tube volume.
