Need to determine diameter of a pipe often arises during the replacing of pipes of the sewerage, selection of the heated towel rail and other homeworks. It is possible to define it independently, for this purpose you need only a roulette or a caliper.

Instruction
1. Measure by a roulette or a centimetric tape a pipe circle, for this purpose wrap up it around and look at value on a scale. Further divide the received value into Pi's number equal 3.1415. As a result you receive the external diameter of a pipe.
2. If you have a caliper, you can measure external diameter directly (for pipes to 15 cm). For this purpose clasp a pipe with sponges of the tool and look on a double scale how many centimeters diameter is.
3. To learn internal diameter, measure wall thickness on a pipe cut. Take measurements by means of a ruler or a caliper (the second way, of course, more precisely). Subtract from external diameter the wall thickness increased by two – the received number and there is internal diameter.
4. Quite often designations of pipes are made in inches. If you took measurements in centimeters, try to transfer them to inches. For this purpose increase the received diameter by 0.398, and you receive the size in inches. On the contrary, it is possible to transfer diameter in inches to centimeters, having just increased it by 2.54.
5. When choosing the heated towel rail or other works during which it is necessary to learn diameter of the standard water pipe passing at your place use the following easy way. Apply a ruler to a pipe and estimate its approximate diameter. If approximately it is visible that the pipe has width about 32 cm – safely draw a conclusion that landing diameter its 1 inch. To the size of 25-28 cm there corresponds the standard pipe in ¾ inch, and to value in 16 mm – 1.2 inches.
