How to find equivalent resistance

The Equivalent Consecutive Resistance (ECR) is called the parameter of the condenser which is especially important at its use as a part of pulse power supplies. This characteristic is not specified on the case of the device and is capable to change over time.

Instruction

1. Examine determination of equivalent consecutive resistance. Imagine the ideal condenser (in practice of those does not exist), consistently with which the resistor is switched on. He is capable to limit current of a charge and the category of the device. In the pulse power supply the condenser with a big equivalent consecutive resistance for this reason is capable not only to increase pulsations, but also to completely break work of the scheme.

2. It is impossible to measure the equivalent consecutive resistance of the condenser on a direct current. It is connected with the fact that after charging it ceases to carry such current. Therefore for measurement of this parameter use the generator of sinusoidal tension with a frequency in several dozen kilohertzes. It can be, for example, the ordinary generator of standard signals. Adjust it so that tension amplitude at its exit was about two volts.

3. Parallel to the output of the generator turn on the voltmeter of alternating current capable to work at such frequency. it should not measure the amplitude, and operating value of tension. Connect parallel to it the chain consisting of the test condenser and the milliamperemeter of the alternating current also capable to work with such frequency and to display the operating value of current. Surely discharge the condenser before measurement in the safe way.

4. Transfer results of measurement to the SI system. Divide the measured tension into the measured current. The result - the equivalent consecutive resistance of the condenser - will turn out in ohms.

5. Vpayka of the condenser if it was suitable, carry out with respect for polarity. Carry out measurement only concerning electrolytic condensers as at others it becomes rare too big.

6. If desired, collect the direct-reading measuring instrument of equivalent consecutive resistance. It allows to carry out measurement of this parameter, without resorting to calculations.
