1. The first way: positioning on a compass. Establish a compass horizontally on a firm surface. Release a brake clip from a compass. After a while the arrow of a compass will cease to fluctuate and the ""northern"" end will point north, and opposite - on the South. To the right of the ""northern"" end at an angle of 90 degrees there will be an East. Do not use a compass near power lines and the railroads: compass readings will be distorted. Check compass readings from time to time not to go astray.
2. The second way – on parts of the world. This way is familiar to us from geography lessons at school: in an hour of rising the sun is approximately in the east, at noon – is closer to the South, at three o'clock in the afternoon in the southwest, and comes approximately in the West.
3. The third way – definition of parts of the world on hours and the sun. In a sunny weather arrange hours that the hand looked directly at the sun. Halve a corner between an hour hand and figure "13" on a dial board. The straight line which divides this corner will indicate the South. Therefore, to the left of it there will be an East. In summertime the error of this method increases up to 25 degrees. In southern latitudes where the sun stands highly, such method is not recommended to be used.
4. The fourth way – orientation on the Pole star. Find the constellation of Big Dipper in the star sky - the arrangement of her seven bright stars reminds the outlines a ladle. Lay off mentally distance between extreme stars up a straight line towards Little Dipper (small ladle) in number of 5 times. The postponed piece will come across an extreme star in a ladle – the Pole star. Get up the person in the Pole star: it will be the direction on the North. Therefore, on the right you get a referral on the East.
