How to make the sterling engine

The Stirlinga engine is the thermal car invented at the beginning of the 19th century. It is one of types of the engine of external combustion in which the liquid working body circulates in the closed volume, periodically heating up and being cooled. Today unfairly the forgotten Stirlinga engine begins to find new life thanks to the environmental friendliness, profitability and silent work.

It is required to you

  • - brass tube;
  • - tin leaf;
  • - steel needle;
  • - wooden support;
  • - measuring metal ruler;
  • - hacksaw;
  • - scissors for metal cutting;
  • - file or file;
  • - fasteners;
  • - lathe;
  • - soldering station;
  • - gumboil for soldering;
  • - solder.

Instruction

1. Make a fire chamber and two cylinders which will form the Stirlinga engine basis of sheet tin. Determine the amount of preparations, proceeding from the purposes for the sake of which you mount installation. For use of the engine as demonstration model take width of development of the main cylinder, equal 200-250 mm. Adjust other sizes to the turned-out diameter.

2. In the top part of a cylinder on which the piston will move, provide two ledges with the openings having diameter of 4-5 mm. These "ears" will perform function of bearings on which the krivoshipny mechanism will be placed.

3. Manufacture the camera for a working body of the engine as which ordinary water will begin to serve. Solder two tin circles of the corresponding diameter to the cylinder curtailed into a tube. In each circle make openings into which insert brass tubes 25-35 mm long and with a diameter of 4-5 mm. After assembly of the water camera check it for tightness; water should not get through connecting seams.

4. For production of the displacer take a wooden blank, previously having given it the cylindrical form on the lathe. Achieve that diameter of the displacer was a little less than diameter of a working cylinder. Height of this detail is selected by practical consideration after assembly of model therefore make the displacer with some stock on length.

5. Make a cylinder rod of a thin steel needle. In the center of a wooden cylinder execute an opening by the size of a rod and insert into it a rod with effort. Provide an opening into which the conrod mechanism will be inserted in the top part of a rod.

6. Take a scrap of a copper tube with a diameter of 20-25 mm and 45 mm long. From below solder a tin circle of the necessary diameter to a cylinder. In sidewalls of a cylinder drill an opening through which this capacity will be reported with a big cylinder.

7. Turn the piston of the engine on the machine, having adjusted its size to the internal diameter of a big cylinder. In the hinged way attach a rod to the top surface of the piston.

8. Make final assembly and adjustments of model of the engine. Insert the piston into a big cylinder. Connect by means of a brass tube among themselves both cylinders (big and small).

9. In the top part of a big cylinder mount the krivoshipno-conrod mechanism. Carefully to a propayayta a cylinder bottom also place this part of the engine on a fire chamber, having attached soldering. Reliably fix all main parts of the engine on a wooden plate.

10. Fill a cylinder with water. Under a bottom it through an opening in a fire chamber place a usual candle or a spirit-lamp. Start the engine and check it in work. If necessary make additional adjustment and adjustment of components of installation.
