How to measure tension by a tester

The majority of modern devices for measurement of parameters of electric current are universal and allow to measure not only tension, but also current and also resistance, capacity and so forth. Such devices are called "multimeters" or just testers. To measure tension, the voltmeter is required.

Instruction

1. By means of a tester it is possible to measure both the constant tension, and variable. To measure constant tension, use a special scale which has five limits of measurements: 200 mV, 2 V, 20 V, 200 V and maximum - 1000 V. At voltage measurement of household appliances of this number of limits it is enough. If tension is initially not known it is necessary to begin measurements, using the maximum limit.

2. The tester has two probes - one of them red, the second - black. The black probe is ""earth"", and it is connected to ""minus"". The red probe - for voltage measurement and, respectively, is connected to ""plus"". To measure constant tension, fix the black probe on the weight (it is possible to use ""crocodile""" the probe), and the red probe concern that place which tension you want to measure.

3. During voltage measurement be attentive. Do not confuse limits of measurement and try to short-circuit nothing. If at measurement of more high voltage (300–400 V) you put a limit of measurement of 200 mV, the device can fail. The top limit (1000 V) can be insufficiently only during the work with monitors or TVs as there is tension maximum (up to 20 kV). For these measurements it is better to take the high-class device.

4. The scale of alternating voltage differs a little. This scale has one limit less, than a scale of constant tension: There are usually enough 200 mV, 2B, 20 V, 200 V and maximum - 750 V. No this range of limits to perform the necessary measurements. All the rest looks as well as in a case with measurement of constant tension.

5. To measure alternating voltage, fix the black probe on weight and perform voltage measurement of the necessary site, concerning it the red probe.
