Ethyl air of acetic acid (other name – ethyl acetate) has formula C4H8O2. Represents itself the colourless liquid well soluble in some organic matter, for example, benzene, acetone. In water ethyl acetate is dissolved much worse. Has the characteristic luscious sweetish and bluff smell which is a little reminding an acetone smell. In what ways it is possible to receive this substance?
Instruction
1. If to write its structural formula, at once it will be visible that ethyl acetate is formed of two molecules: ethyl CH3CH2OH alcohol and acetic CH3COOH acid. At their connection happens "otshchepleny" molecules of water to formation of "bridge" of the S-island. Therefore one of ways of receiving this substance in that also consists: C2H5OH (ethyl alcohol) + CH3COOH (acetic acid) = C2H5O-COCH3 + H2O
2. When boiling mix of ethanol and acetic acid, in the presence of the concentrated sulfuric acid as water absorber, there is this reaction of etherification. Couples of formed air are condensed, then are cleaned from impurity.
3. Other way of receiving ethyl acetate – reaction of acetic anhydride with ethyl alcohol. It goes thus: (CH3CO)2O + 2C2H5OH = 2C2H5O-COCH3 + H2O
4. It is possible to synthesize ethyl acetate and by reaction of salt of acetic acid, for example, of sodium acetate, with chloride ethyl. The product is formed as follows: CH3COONa + C2H5Cl = C2H5O-CO-CH3 + NaCl
