How to receive ammonia

Ammonia, it is hydrogen nitride - it is the gas which does not have color, but possessing a pungent unpleasant smell. This gas is poisonous. Generally ammonia is used in the refrigerating equipment as inorganic coolant. In the industry it is received interaction of hydrogen and nitrogen though it is possible to receive it also in other ways.

It is required to you

  • Ammonium nitrate, the calcinated or baking soda, sodium hydroxide, calcium oxide, ammoniac water, chloride of ammonium, test tube.

Instruction

1. Take ammonium nitrate (ammonium nitrate), crush it in powder and fill in a test tube. Then, fill the calcinated or baking soda there. Carefully mix mix.

2. Take sodium hydroxide (caustic soda) and mix it with calcium oxide (not extinguished lime). Fill this mix in the second test tube.

3. Pour water in a test tube with ammonium nitrate and soda, stir solution and put to heat up. Further, close this test tube a stopper with an exhaust tube, and place the second end of a tube in the second test tube. In these conditions, nitrate of ammonium and soda will react among themselves with formation of new substances, nitrate of sodium which will remain in solution and ammonia which on an exhaust tube will come to the second test tube. Caustic soda and lime, absorbing moisture, serve for ammonia drainage.

4. Take ammoniac water and pour it in a test tube. Accurately heat it, ammonia will be emitted at the same time.

5. Dissolve caustic soda in water and pour in a flask. Further, dissolve ammonium chloride in water. Mix these two solutions and heat on a spirit torch. When boiling, ammonia will be emitted.
