Main areas of commodity agriculture of Africa

Besides considerable deposits of minerals, the African continent has also rather rich agricultural areas. Thanks to the climate, local farmers receive on several harvests of various cultures in a year.

Continent agriculture

Africa. The hottest place on the planet, the owner of the biggest desert. But, nevertheless, life and on this continent goes rather actively. It is more than a half of the countries which are in Africa, are engaged in export of agricultural goods. Nearly two thirds of cocoa beans have African origin. But it is not the only culture which is in huge demand in the world markets. Grain crops, such as wheat, corn, barley and rice, have a strategic importance not only for the African countries, but also for the European states which conduct purchase of these goods. Grain crops cultivate in North Africa and in the south of the continent. And such countries as Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Egypt and the Republic of South Africa are leaders among producers of these cultures and have continuous commercial relations with many states.

Besides grain, in northern areas a large number of fruit, such as oranges, lemons, grapefruits and even tangerines is grown up. These cultures are also the most part of export of the northern African countries. Here it is possible to add also the Egyptian dates which have a share in world production of these goods, equal 40%.

Livestock production - an important component

Besides the developing crop production the African countries conduct rather active development and livestock production. The countries of the central and southern parts of the continent grow up cattle. On it the economy of these countries is tied. And it is not surprising as 26% of world pastures are located in these regions. But, despite quite big livestock which is available in the African herds, the livestock production is ineffective in the world relation. It is promoted by various factors from which main thing it is possible to call the relation to cattle, as to a monetary criterion.

Future of Africa

Proceeding from above-mentioned data, it is possible to present how the African continent will develop in the future. The bigger value will be allocated for production of grain and vegetable crops which gradually add every year in a share of the reaped crops. It is caused by the increasing demand for these cultures and continuous increase in the allocated lands for crop production. And therefore current leaders will remain the main areas of commodity agriculture: countries of the North of the African continent.
