Physical and chemical properties of hydrosulphate of sodium

Hydrosulphate of sodium has formula NaHSO4 and represents well soluble colourless crystals in water. This salt enters in a row chemical reactions and is widely used in the industry.

Instruction

1. Hydrosulphate of sodium represents sour salt of sulfuric acid and sodium. Sometimes it is called sodium bisulphate. The formula of this salt is NaHSO4.

2. Hydrosulphate of sodium has an appearance of colourless crystals. The molar mass of this salt is 120.06 grams on mol, density - 2.472 grams on cubic centimeter. Bisulphate of sodium melts at a temperature of 186 wasps. Salt is well dissolved in water. In 100 milliliters of water at zero degrees 29 grams of hydrosulphate of sodium are dissolved, and at 100 OS - 50 grams. At dissolution in alcohol hydrosulphate of sodium collapses.

3. When heating to temperature of 250 degrees and above hydrosulphate of sodium passes into pyrosulphate with formula Na2S2O7. In interaction with alkalis bisulphate of sodium turns into Na2SO4 sulfate.

4. Hydrosulphate of sodium is capable to enter interaction with other salts. So, at agglomeration with sodium chloride at a temperature over 450 wasps it turns into sodium sulfate with release of chlorohydrogen. Similar reaction happens at agglomeration to oxides of metals. For example, at sodium hydrosulphate heating with oxide of copper copper sulfate, sulfate of sodium turn out and water is emitted.

5. Hydrosulphate of sodium forms monohydrate with a molar weight of 138.07 grams on mol and with a density of 1.8 grams on cubic centimeter. Monohydrate melts at a temperature of 58.5 wasps. Unlike waterless bisulphate of sodium which crystals have a triclinic singoniya the crystals of monohydrate have a monoklinny singoniya.

6. In the industry hydrosulphate of sodium is received, affecting alkali with excess of sulfuric acid. One more industrial way of receiving this salt is reaction of sulfuric acid with sodium chloride when heating. As a result of this reaction, bisulphate of sodium is formed and gaseous chlorohydrogen which is used for production of hydrochloric acid is emitted.

7. Hydrosulphate of sodium is widely used in food production - production of cakes, processing of a bird and meat. Processing by bisulphate of sodium prevents darkening of products. This salt is designated as E514 nutritional supplement. It can be found in structure of various sauces, drinks, etc. Besides the food industry, hydrosulphate of sodium is applied as gumboil in metallurgy and as the chemical reagent capable to transfer almost insoluble oxides to soluble salts.
