Rules of storage of chemical reactants

Rules of storage of chemical reactants

The majority of chemical reactants - very dangerous substances for which accurately certain rules of storage and use are necessary. Each employee of chemical laboratory has to know them.

In what rooms it is necessary to store chemical reactants

Indoors, where chemical reactants will be stored, it is necessary to exclude any possibility of reaction with their participation. For this purpose it is necessary to follow several simple rules.

First of all, rooms have to have regularly working ventilation system. Air in them should not stand and heat up as some substances are quite sensitive to temperature increase. It is also necessary to exclude hit of direct sunshine on the capacity where reagents are stored.

Rooms have to be dry as many substances can react with water. Consequences of such reaction can pour out in considerable material damage, not to mention possible mutilations of staff of laboratory or a warehouse. Usually near a table where there is a selection of medicines, there is information leaf on which rules of placement and storage of chemical reagents are written. Here some of them.

Rules of storage of chemical reactants

Many substances necessary in the industry and laboratory researches are chemically active. That is why they should be stored separately from each other. This rule works for some reactants: - combustible gases (hydrogen, butane, propane) it is necessary to store separately from gases which are capable to support reaction of oxidation (burning), storage of combustible gases with inert is allowed (argon, krypton, neon); - strong inorganic acids, such, as sulfuric, salt, orthophosphoric and others; - the substances capable to ignition and allocation of a large amount of energy: red phosphorus, sulfur; - cyanides and other strong poisons, for example, arsenic also should be stored separately from other reactants in spite of the fact that in itself it is not poisonous. It is capable to react easily with other substances. Almost all compounds of arsenic carry to strong poisons. Employees of a warehouse should pay attention to substances which players are changed at reaction with air. For sealing paraffin can be used. In certain cases it cannot be applied. The substances capable to react with glass store in the special tanks made of acidproof steel (in case of sulfuric acid) or special steady polymers. The discharge of reagents in the system of the sewerage is in certain cases allowed. Before it they need to be diluted with water repeatedly. Strong acid and alkaline solutions are forbidden to be merged in the sewerage in any concentration.
