Champions occur not only among people. Representatives of flora also have records. Some copies appear quicker, above and stronger, than fellows.
Regal eucalyptus
It is quite possible that once on the earth also much bigger copies met, however today the highest tree ever growing on the earth, information on which is documented, is the regal eucalyptus it is from Australia. The tree rested for a long time, in 1872, and to his death nobody paid attention to its dimensions. However, having fallen, the long eucalyptus drew attention of the local inspector of the state woods who mentioned in the report tree height – more than 150 meters.
Now the maximum height of the found eucalyptuses is 101 meters.
Sequoia sempervirens
Today the highest tree is Hyperion – Sequoia sempervirens growing in a northern part of California in national park Redvud. The huge tree was found in 2006. Hyperion is allocated against the background of the fellows growing at a row. Its height is 115.5 meters, and in a grasp the sequoia reaches nearly five meters. However scientists consider that Hyperion not for long will be able to remain a champion. The problem is that its top was damaged by the woodpeckers who a lot of are found in the park, and growth of a huge sequoia slowed down. Experts predict that by 2017 more fast-growing Helios will become the highest tree.
The exact location of Hyperion is not disclosed. Owners of the park are afraid that crowds of tourists will do much harm to a fragile ecosystem.
Rotangovy palm tree
Calamus or rotangovy palm tree – one more champion from the world of flora. This plant is capable to reach 300 meters in length. A rattan stalk equal and smooth, throughout three-four meters it can have identical diameter. Knots and side branches at this rod growing in Southeast Asia are absent. Ocean Posidoniya
One champion hid at the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea near the island of Ibiza. The Spanish scientists found huge colony of this alga. Stalks of a posidoniya reach length eight kilometers, and the colony stretches for 700 kilometers. However biologists consider that this giant is threatened by danger. Because of deterioration in ecology and pollution of the ocean this alga – the champion and an important part of the Mediterranean ecosystem can die.
