The least bird on the earth – a humming-bird. Moreover, she is the least warm-blooded animal on the earth. In length of a humming-bird reaches from 5 to 20 centimeters from a beak to a tail, and her minimum weight can reach everything 2 grams.

1. Despite the sizes, a humming-bird – very strong and fast bird. Quantity of waves wings which does this little being, can reach 80 times a second. Speed of their flight reaches 80 km/h, and during the marriage period they can develop also 100 km/h.
2. A humming-bird – the only bird on the earth which can fly back and also horizontally up and down. They are capable to hang in air – her wings move to this moment on an eight trajectory. It is reached thanks to their unique form. On a trajectory the flight of a bird reminds movement of insects. Flying muscles of an animal make 20-30% of mass of all body.
3. In the nature there are about 350 various types of a humming-bird who can differ in the sizes and coloring. All these birds live mainly in America in various climatic zones, since Alaska and finishing with tropical forests. Duration of their life – about 8 years. They can survive at quite low temperatures since they have a large number of feathers. Moreover, during migration to colder regions they store about 72% of all mass of the organism in the form of fat.
4. Humming-birds eat flower nectar and pollen. Also the bird collects pollen on the feathers, and therefore plays an important role at reproduction of plants. Humming-birds build the nests in a form reminding a bowl which diameter does not exceed 3-5 cm. In them birds lay eggs, the sizes comparable with peas. Nests are made of spider lines and small pieces of bark. They are suspended on a branch of a bush or the chosen tree.
5. Despite the size, a humming-bird very brave and vigorous. They are not afraid to attack even snakes and big birds if those try to attack their nest. Thanks to the speed, they are capable to protect the dwellings by means of a long beak – the bird flies on the enemy like an arrow, aiming in a nose or the opponent's eyes.
