This foodstuff is familiar to everyone. Table salt is widely used in life. It is applied to preparation of many types of food. What color of this product is? This property of salt is defined by its chemical composition and the place of origin.
Food salt: properties and value
Food salt is called differently: "sodium chloride", "chloride sodium", "rock salt" or just "salt". Distinguish several types of salt: nitrite, iodated, a fine and coarse grinding. Depending on purity degree, table salt is divided into a number of categories (grades): extra, premium, the first and second.
Salt is necessary for activity of the person and the vast majority of animal species. Sodium ions actively participate in transfer of nervous impulses in an organism, they are responsible for reduction of muscle fibers. If concentration of chloride sodium in an organism is insufficient, the person can feel increased fatigue and the general weakness. Nausea, dizziness and headaches become signs of deficiency of this substance.
What color of table salt is
People got used to white color of salt. But if to crush this substance, it will take a form of colourless crystals. If the product has natural (sea) origin, in it there are almost always impurity of other mineral substances. They can quite give to a product different shades, but most often colors of natural salt have different gradation brown or gray.
And still in pure form chloride of sodium has no color. So-called "royal" salt meets in the nature: it differs in pleasant aroma and a pinkish shade. Its color is defined by microscopic inclusions which get to substance from water of salt sources. Production of pink salt develops in the Crimea. It is extracted to several tons per year, but in the long term volumes of extraction of pink salt are planned to be brought to 100 tons.
Table salt meets a unique blue shade. But in the nature such product – a big rarity. And here in vitro it is received without special work. For this purpose in the closed capacity it is necessary to heat mix of metal sodium and chloride sodium. Metal has property to be dissolved in table salt. When the crystal is cooled, it accepts blue coloring. Now try to dissolve this blue product – and you make sure that solution will be colourless.
In mines of Pakistan extract also salt of a red shade. Exotic grades of chloride of sodium are known: pink Peruvian salt, pink Himalaya and even black. Such types of foodstuff quite often get in the manual way: industrial technologies do not allow to develop specific fields of unique grades of table salt yet.
