What is geoecology

What is geoecology

Geoecology – the scientific direction covering areas of studying ecology and geography. The subject and problems of this science are definitely not defined, in its framework investigate a set of various problems connected with interaction of the nature and society with influence of the person on landscapes and other geographical envelopes.

Geoecology history

The geoecology was allocated in separate science about hundred years ago when the German geographer Karl Troll described area of studying landscape ecology. From his point of view, this scientific activity has to unite the geographical and ecological principles in a research of ecosystems.

The geoecology developed slowly, in the Soviet Union this term for the first time was read in the seventies. By the beginning of the 21st century both adjacent areas – geography and ecology – steel rather exact for prediction as the nature and various covers of Earth depending on human influence will change. Moreover, scientists can already offer ways of the solution of the problems connected with negative impact of technogenic activity on the nature. Therefore the geoecology in the new millennium began to develop rapidly, the sphere of its activity extended.

Geoecology

In spite of the fact that this discipline becomes more and more demanded, from the scientific point of view it is described insufficiently. Researchers more or less agree in opinion on problems of geoecology, but an accurate object of research of this science they do not give. One of the most widespread assumptions of a subject sounds so: these are the processes happening in the environment and in various covers of Earth – the hydrosphere, a lithosphere, the atmosphere and others which result from anthropogenic intervention and involve certain consequences. In studying geoecology there is very important factor – it is necessary to consider both the spatial, and temporary relations in researches. In other words, for geoecologists matters as influence of the person on the nature in various geographical conditions, and changes of these consequences in time. Geoecologists investigate sources which influence the biosphere, study their intensity and reveal spatial and temporary distribution of their action. They create special information systems by means of which it is possible to provide constant control over the environment. Along with ecologists they consider pollution levels in various areas: in the World Ocean, in a lithosphere, in internal waters. They try to find influence of the person on formation of ecosystems and their functioning. The geoecology is engaged not only the situation existing now, but also predicts, and models possible consequences of the happening processes. It allows to prevent undesirable changes, but not to fight against their consequences.
