What is Moore's law

What is Moore's law

Gordon Moore is the scientist-empiricist who for the first time accurately formulated the law, already 40 years remaining the indisputable rule for all industry of information technologies.

Applied interpretation

According to Moore's law the following type of the computer will always work two and a half times quicker, and the following developed version of the operating system, on the contrary, will work by one and a half times more slowly.

Not accidentally the Intel company most actively operates Moore's law in advertizing, Moore Gordon Earl was among its founders.

In 1965 one of the first founders and developers of already modern electronics gave in the newspaper article with forecasting of performance of work of the chips taken for an experiment. All these schemes were different generations that gave the chance to argue on increase in performance of their work with each subsequent generation. Within 10 years Moore monitored own forecasts and at the end proved the assumptions by conclusions on the basis of empirical data and also made the forecast of development which is considered the immutable rule for information technology development. The rule it is confirmed from year to year.

The rule which became the law

After Gordon Moore's article was published in popular scientific magazines, admirers christened his assumption "Moore's law". The researcher at all also did not apply for monasteries of the legislator. The statement formulated by Moore is so widely known today that is accepted practically as an axiom, and it, is by the way, very favorable to the businessmen and developers releasing microprocessors. Thanks to a statement which does not need to be explained and proved many producers do excellent advertizing. However, exactly it became the reason not of absolutely exact interpretation of an axiom which can be interpreted differently today: - power of calculation of the personal computer will become each 1.5 years are twice more; - performance of operation of the microprocessor will become each 1.5 years are twice more; - the price of the chip will become each 1.5 years are twice lower; - the calculation power on the computer bought for $1 will become each 1.5 years, etc. are twice more.

The law which nevertheless is more similar to the rule

Very few people know, but there is also the second law of Moore which says that the price of factory on production of chips will grow in proportion to complication of the made product.

At the end there was a wish to add that this law does not come true with that accuracy that it could be referred to category of laws and furthermore to call it empirical dependence. Most likely, the Intel company which in advertizing campaigns speculates today with it just carries out one of the marketing mixes allowing to sell products to consumers. But anyway, Moore's law has many admirers around the world. According to interpretation, he allows to try to obtain almost improbable indicators in the industry of semiconductor products of which any other field of economy cannot brag today.
